Your Health As Your Business Strategy

A road with a biker on the side with the title across the image, "Your Health As Your Business Strategy."

I’ve been a lifelong athlete. And of course, my near fatal motorcycle accident truly gave me insight into how important your health is for your mentality, your life, your relationships and of course your business. You can have the best strategy, the best branding, and the best offers but if you don’t have the energy to execute, none of it matters.

Your health is not separate from your business. It fuels it. Prioritizing your health isn’t selfish, in fact, it just may be one of the top productivity tools you can add.

You Are the Tool

Think of yourself as the primary tool in your business.

Your focus, creativity, decision-making and of course energy are everything for your business. All come from your physical and mental state. If you don’t maintain the tool, performance declines. Just like you maintain your website, update your phone/computer, you have to make sure you are taking care of yourself.

Sleep Is Non-Negotiable

Sleep is not optional. The average person spends around 20 years asleep. So, when you spend that much time doing something, you likely want to be decent at it.

Sleep is directly connected to:

  • Restoration and repair
  • Memory consolidation
  • Cognitive performance
  • Brain development
  • Emotional regulation

You cannot outwork exhaustion. You also are just encouraging yourself a shorter life, poorer performance and quality of life. If you prioritize consistent sleep schedule, quality rest and wind-down routines you can find yourself feeling better and performing at a higher level.

Movement Creates Momentum

Motion is lotion, that is something you’ll hear in gyms, rehab centers, assisted living centers and why not hear it here too. Sitting all day drains energy. Movement will improve your focus, reduce stress, and increase creativity. However, you don’t have to be hitting the gym or PRing weights to see these benefits you can:

  • Walk outside (my happy place)
  • Stretch
  • Yoga
  • Garden

The goal is consistency. And making sure you get some time in.

Taking Breaks Sharpens Your Edge

I do not work weekends, I have a set shut off time, and I make sure I schedule vacation time because stepping away improves performance.

When you take breaks you are allowing your brain to reset. You can avoid mental fatigue and return to work with clarity. Working nonstop dulls your effectiveness. It also takes the fun out of a job you may adore.

Short-term hustle may produce results and you may even get a dopamine rush from thinking you are getting a lot done. But long-term success requires sustainability. Your business should support your life. Your health is not a side priority. It is the foundation.

When you take the time to sharpen your most important asset, yourself, you will perform better, longer, and more effectively.
