Have you ever felt like something with your business is just off? But you can’t quite put your finger on it? You are not alone, a Customer Experience Audit might be the thing you didn’t know you needed. The experience your customer has is the most important piece of your business and it makes the difference between one that falls short or stands tall. It’s the first step toward making sure every interaction a customer has with your business matches the quality and vibe of your brand.

What Is a Customer Experience Audit?

A Customer Experience (CX) Audit is a comprehensive review of how your customers experience your brand across all touchpoints, from first discovery to post-purchase follow-up. It covers your website, branding, communication, and any point where your customer interacts with your business.

What We Look At

While a CX audit isn’t an official service offered by KHD, it is something we do for our client’s project, if they are not a new business. When conducting a CX audit, we typically focus on:

  • Brand consistency (logo use, tone of voice, visuals)
  • Website usability and clarity
  • Customer journey mapping (from awareness to conversion)
  • Client onboarding and offboarding processes
  • Communication touchpoints (emails, confirmations, support)

How to Get Started

If you’re DIYing it:

  1. Check your brand consistency. Are you sticking to your branding? Make sure that your user doesn’t get a different side of you on socials versus your website. Be sure your visuals are sticking to what you want your brand to say about you.
  2. Walk through your website as a customer would. Is it clear what you do/offer and how to start working with you? Everything should be simple enough that an 8th grader could do it. (It needs to be simple enough anybody can understand it OR to not use up all people’s brain power)
  3. Review your customer’s journey. Does it flow naturally and cleanly? Are you having your customer sign-up more often than they should? For example, if your customer signs up for a lead magnet, but you have several, are they having to sign-up individually for each one or can they choose which one(s) they want after entering their information once?
  4. Analyze your client processes. Is it easy to book you? What does your follow-up look like? Think about it from a client perspective.
  5. Look at your communication touchpoints. Are they aligned with your brand voice? Are they timely and helpful? Are emails and direct messages all saying the same things?

A Customer Experience Audit isn’t about being nitpicky, it’s about alignment. When everything flows cohesively, your brand feels polished, professional, and trustworthy. It creates a better experience for your client and more efficiency and confidence for you. After reading this article, you should be able to hit all the 5 touchpoints for a DIY Customer Experience Audit, reviewing everything from; brand consistency, website usability, customer journey, client processes, and your communication touchpoints. Once you have these maintained and you know you would want to be your own customer, you can be sure your own customers are happy.
