You know the saying that you are the sum of the people you surround yourself with? I think that’s true and a really good way to make sure you are upping the average on that sum is by going to networking events. You surround yourself with like-minded people, all trying to up their businesses. Now, you don’t need to attend every networking event to grow your business, you just need to find the right ones. The ones where you leave feeling energized, not drained. The ones where you think, “These are my people.”

First Of All – Niche Down

When you’re clear on who you serve and what you do, you naturally start attracting the right opportunities. You start to recognize where your ideal clients or collaborators might hang out.

For example:

  • A financial advisor might look for events hosted by XYPN, local chambers, or business owner masterminds.
  • A creative entrepreneur might find gold in industry-specific meetups, coworking space events, or retreats.

Clarity leads to connection. The more niche you are, the more easily you can spot your crowd.

Where to Look for Networking Opportunities

  • Local business organizations: Chamber of Commerce, Women in Business, Young Professionals, etc.
  • Online communities: Facebook Groups, or LinkedIn groups often host virtual meetups.
  • Event platforms: Eventbrite, Meetup.com, and even local libraries or co-working spaces often post upcoming events.
  • Referrals: Ask a peer what events they love attending.

Follow Your Energy

If an event feels off or misaligned, it’s okay to skip it. Trust your gut. The best networking happens when you feel like you can show up fully as yourself. Prepare yourself to feel a little uncomfortable though, that is where the goodness lies.

Finding the right networking events isn’t just about calendars and locations, it’s about alignment. When you know your niche and follow your curiosity, you’ll naturally gravitate toward spaces where connection feels easy, not forced.
